Party with a Hurricane: My Rock N Roll Virginia Beach experience

Image
This was my first race since the allergic reaction that sent me to th ER in early August. That episode was quickly followed by a blot clot in my arm. August was tough for this runner. Rock n' Roll Virginia Beach actually wound up being my longest run in the past 2 months. I was cleared to run by two doctors and I haven't had any issues in two weeks.        So, let's start with the obvious elephant in the room. Yup, the one that spun its way from the Gulf of Mexico through the Florida panhandle (woo-hoo -- FAMU & Tallahassee & Carraballe Island), then across Georgia and North Carolina to make for a messy race weekend for more than 6 thousand people. I'm talkin' about Hermine! It was a Hurricane, then a tropical storm.. then a hurricane again. Either way, I wasn't really up for another white-knuckle 3 hour drive. First Trip to North Carolina's Coast- Wrightsville Beach

Image
It was a boys only weekend. My wife was away in Chicago to see her friends, so EJ and I hit the road. I figured since it's summer time it'd be the perfect opportunity to hit the beach... and it was. We got to Wrightsville beach 2-o'clock-ish. I drove around for about 15-20 minutes just to get a feel for the place and see where the best place was to park.

It has been pleasantly, but unseasonably warm here in New England. So a couple of weeks ago I was able to take a trip to the beach.

Trip to the Beach

Who doesn't love a trip to the beach, even if it is only 40 degrees out. Seriously, I didn't realize this until today. I think there is something great about going to the beach even if you can't get into the water. By the way in Connecticut there aren't any beaches where I'd actually get in the water for a prolonged period of time. It's a fact, Long Island Sound stinks from decades of pollution. But it's still beautiful. Me and Ej were down there for a photoshoot today and -- as usual-- he requested a couple of shots of himself.
