Things I won't miss about apartment living

Image
I have lived with, under, over, and next to complete strangers for the past 16 years. Since 1998 I have lived in various forms of dormitories, apartments and condos. Some of those strangers have become good friends. But, for the most part, apartment living stinks. And I am thankful for it. I thankful that it was nice enough to live in... but just annoying enough to push us to want more for our family and our future .       The home we're living in right now is a prayer answered, a mountain moved, a door opened ...and a way where there seemed to be no way.       I wasn't easy. In fact it took us ten years to get here. Yes we made our share of mistakes. We suffered loss when we thought we would win, but we never gave up on faith, on hope and God's promise for our lives.  We learned trust, dedication, determination and perseverance.       I also learned about how detrimental bad debt can be... And how benefici...

Black History Month: The Celebration Continues

Image
Black history month is coming to an close for this year. But, that doesn't mean the celebration of our history or search for our own roots in this country has to stop. I know I won't stop after February 28th. It's been interesting monitoring twitter comments through the #blackhistorymonth hashtag. The hashtag spent one --maybe two- days on top of twitter's trending topics. There have been a lot of complaints within the hashtag that it had stopped trending, although there were some valiant efforts to keep things going from "some" notable stars and the fake "chris rock" twitter account. I think there were probably too many ignorant tweets, some with the "N" word, others with i guess gag pictures that would make some of our civil rights leaders turn over in their graves. I think the people posted them don't know, care or understand the significance of marking  month. There were very few if any blatantly racist tweets. Although, the...

Why Do I love NASA?

Image
I Don't know why I love stories about NASA going in to space. Stories that will grind to a halt at the end of 2010.  This is officially the 131st space flight of the Shuttle program. Maybe the wonder of it all was instilled in me as a child...  often getting a break from school just to watch the shuttle blast off into space. Maybe it's the NASCAR effect (buy a ticket and wait for a big crash). Or maybe its the hopes and dreams of a generation to be able to travel at the speed of light. I mean, our movies, our sci-fi television programs are filled with stories to fulfill this desire to investigate what is out there in the deep black void of space.  Whatever combination of these it is.. I keep watching... thinking about it every time I fly or find myself under a starlit sky. Discovery, the next space shuttle scheduled to fly to the International Space Station, was hoisted and attached to its external fuel tank and twin solid rocket boosters on Feb. 22 and 23 in the V...

Just a reminder.. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs." Luke 6:27 "But I say to you that hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
