A Walk in the Park (NOT)

Image
So, I admit that I have a problem. I've gotten into the habit of taking my camera with me everywhere. No, I'm not talking about my iPhone... I'm carrying this huge DSLR around with me. I'm still a little inconspicuous because I don't have one of those professional "L" lenses (the big long white ones with the red ring.) So, here's a few reasons why I'm lugging it around.     1. I'm Crazy     2. I want to be prepared if I want or need to take a picture     3. Networking,        The problem (or benefit) to lugging this camera around with me all the time is that I'm always thinking about what I could capture in the lens. So, a walk in the park isn't just a walk in the park any more. It's a photo-op for anything, everyone and at any moment. I pick on the park because there are times and places when I have to leave the thing behind (malls, schools, hospitals, church -- well sometimes.) The main reason -not listed abo...

Learning the lay of the land-- Video Game Style

Image
Raleigh, NC. One thing I've noticed is that it can be a challenge learning how to get around a new city. I've been told Raleigh is like a big circle. That helps because it is like a big circle... but it helps to relate real life obstacles to a smaller scale obstacle-- Like video games.  Having something like Siri or OnStar is an asset when learning the lay of a new city.   But, for some crazy people like me all it takes is a few rides around town... and a few familiar street names for the permanent mental connections to be made. Unlike where you  grow up, when you  move to a new area, you immediately latch on to street names. For instance, I'm probably the worst at giving directions in Southington, New Haven or Waterbury. I learned how to get around in those cities before I really knew the street names.  The point is: I think my brain is wired for video games.       Remember how Zelda and Duke Nukem used t...

Family Fall Picture Day

Image
Every once in a while, I force my family to stop and pose. This past Sunday was on of those days. After church, after eating and just before everyone was about to take a nap, I made everyone put on their shoes, jackets and head outside. "Don't want to miss the sun-- let's go!" I said. Yet another reason to like our location. The way the sun rolls off this mountain and created deep shadows makes it look like we were taking pictures in some exotic location... but this is just one block up from Dixwell Avenue...lol. Anyway, we didn't miss the "golden hour".. and here's what we got!

Interesting way to take Fall Foliage Pictures with an iPhone

Image
Believe it or not this is a regular old picture of an iPhone sitting on a picnic table at a park. I have the aperture opened way up. It blurs everything out.. even the home button. I think it's a cool unexpected shot

A Fiery Red Tree: Fall is still here

Image
I love these pictures of this fiery red tree in New Haven. I wanted to, but didn't even have to travel far to find this tree. The Amazing think about it though, .. this was the only tree on this block with these bright vibrant colors. It wasn't on my regular route to and from work, so sometimes it pays to take a detour. I'm guessing this is some kind of maple tree.
