Canon 30-80 4-5.6 Tear Down, Inside a broken camera lens

Image
So a while back, I purchased a package deal on E-bay:Two lenses for $20. I thought it was a deal that I couldn't pass up... even though the seller clearly stated that the lenses were damaged. I decided to try it. Turns out it was a horrible choice. Both lenses had problems. So, today I decided to put the two of them together and see which one is worth keeping and which one would be worth tearing apart for to see what goodies it holds inside. After a quick and scientific test. The Canon won (or lost) the contest. The canon was a really old model of lens 30 - 80 4-5.6. When I tried to take a picture with it today, I got a wonderful message from my camera that it could not communicate with my choice of lens and that I needed to clean the contacts.       So, I Cleaned the contacts.. and that didn't work. So, I took out my teeny-tiny screw driver and opened that bad boy up. I wasn't expecting to find much inside a lens this old... and I did...

Let the Car Shows begin! Lake Wheeler, Raleigh

Image
Some guys look forward to the next baseball, football or basketball game... I look forward to church and the next car show. I don't know what it is about cars that I like so much. not fair, lol, this guy drove to the car show in this     No, I know exactly what it is. It's the sight and sound and feeling that they give you. Since I don't have my own, I'll have to live vicariously through other car owners.. capturing their love for cars. To keep it 100% with y'all, ... if I had a classic car, i don't think I'd be one of the car owners that goes to a car show to show off my car, but i would drive my classic... "heavy chevy" out there. Anyway, those are just dreams right now.       So, this is my trip to the Fun in The Sun charity car show put on by Corvettes International in Raleigh. It was held at Lake Wheeler Park. You don't see the lake in any of these pictures but trust me its a beautiful park. Yup, that's an old sc...

Shelley Lake: Every day is a potential photo shoot

Image
I don't have much to say about this post. The pictures kind of speak for themselves. Shelley Lake was one of the first nature photowalks in Raleigh. I really enjoy this park, but it's huge. On this day, father and son were out to hopefully fly a kite. The wind wasn't having it, but we sat around long enough to find a caterpillar... some wild flowers and a little fun. I think my son is learning how to appreciate the beauty around him. That's really what photography has done for me. In such a fast-paced world.. at home, at work and on the road... photography really forces you to stop, slow down and take the beauty all around us. I'm sure hundreds of people walked by this small patch of wild flowers at the edge of this field... but my smart son said... "daddy you should take my picture"... So, I did. Because of the angle and camera lens.. it almost looks like a field full of this pretty flowers.. but it wasn't.

Busy Weekend: Pause for a nice shot

Image
It was a busy weekend. I was honored to take a gaggle (yes gaggle is a real word, scrabble me) of pictures for the Salon LaVough International Fall Hair Show. Even when I'm busy, there's always time for just one more shot. This is the iron fence outside the Cabaret Theater in downtown Bridgeport-- which is right down the street from City Hall (not city  hall Annex.) This is all that I can show you from the actual show right now. More pictures are coming -- possibly by the end of the week.

My reaction to the iPhone 4s

Image
The new iPhone 4s release was kind of like that feeling you used to get around Christmas when you just had to have that new Nintendo system. Then, you look under the tree and it's not there, but you go over your cousins house and find out it's not that much better than the Nintendo you already have-- and it plays all the same games. You wonder if it is worth the hype but still tell your friend that its the coolest game ever.       I think we've been waiting and dreaming of what Apple could come up with next for so long that some of us were half expected a hovercraft or something (Back to the Future reference.)

New Camera, Old Lense, New Look

Image
These pictures were shot with on My new Canon 600D (3Ti), but with an old 50mm lens from my dads old film camera. This thing takes some amazing pictures. In some of these shots the aperture is way down to 1.8. I had to back it up to 2.0 to get his hole face in focus. I can't wait until it stops raining so I can take this thing out for a test drive. The depth of field or bokeh is great. You can't even see how messy or clean my house is.      I also want to play with the lens that came in the kit, an old 70 - 200mm telephoto.. and some macro lens attachments. So, stay tuned!
