Race Recon: Rock n Roll Raleigh Marathon

Image
So, there's about one week left before Rock N Roll Raleigh Half Marathon, Marathon and 5k. I'm pretty excited. This will be my first marathon after 7 half marathons... Perfect right? I hope so. Some people wonder why I picked Raleigh to be my first full marathon. "It's so hilly," they say. But the benefits really outweigh the negatives. First, I'm running it as part of the Rock N Blog 2016 Team. So, that's cool. Plus, I get to run a race at home. I can drive to the start line and drive home. My family can come and see me cross the finish line and cheer me on. I can possibly see co-workers, friends, church family all running this race together. Plus, there's a really strong local running community full of some awesome people who have been running longer and have a higher running I.Q. than I do. So, that'll make this experience really cool.       Since this is my first marathon, ... I think I am probably pouring over the details too much. So...

A Proud Volunteer. Still A runner - Race 13.1 Durham Recap

Image
The leaders, Race 13.1 Durham      Who writes about volunteering for a race? Nobody. All the glory, fame, pain and humble-brags come with running a race.       Let me tell you something- I'm really glad I decided to volunteer instead of run the Inaugural Race13.1 Durham.      I had a lot of fun and it was really cool to see the race from a different perspective. I've volunteered once before-- well, let's call it one and s half. The first time was for the Ironman race in Raleigh  we were the snack and drink station. The second time, I volunteered to be a pacer, but my registration got overlooked. So, I got to run a race for free. This time was all 100% legit. I was a corse monitor. I was to control one intersection. Keep cars from moving while runners were passing through. If you ran this race, I was the guy with the GoPro on his head.     The intersection after mine--- the dude didn't show up.     I gue...

Post Race Recap: Rock N' Roll Savannah 2015 - Half Marathon & 5K

Image
Hey Savannah,      Thanks for all the memories, beautiful scenery and awesome races. My heart goes out to the families of the two runners who died during and after the race. For me, I feel like it's a chance we take every time we step out the door. Life can end for any number of given reasons and at any given time but we can't let that stop us from living. Alright, .. now on to the weekend.        I arrived in Savannah Friday night a little stressed and even more concerned that I wouldn't be able to pick up my registration packet. The Health Expo closes at 7 and I'm still looking for parking at 6 o'clock. I turned down one of Savannah's beautiful cobble stone roads.... down a steep hill and around a corner that I didn't think anyone should be able to navigate.. and there it was. The Savannah boardwalk/harbor area. I've been to Savannah a few times... but have never been here before. Eventually we find parking and then it happen...
