Trains are Better than Buses and Planes, Maybe

Image
Okay so you can tell from the title of this post what I'm talking about. Anyone who has ever complained about traveling by airplane with kids, not having enough leg room, snacks, drinks, or TSA checkpoints hasn't had to travel by bus in the last decade.... I promise you!      Recently, I took a bus from Raleigh to New York City where I boarded a taxi to the train station and on to New Haven. It was a long 10 hours. I don't know how some people do that on a regular basis. I think I need like a 2 to three month window between bus trips... if it's even necessary.       Bus trips compared to plane trips.... Let's see what's a good comparison. How about McDonald's and Five Guys or Honda and Harley (sorry I know nothing about bikes.)  I have nothing against bus companies. They do a fine job at what they do. So, I won't name any company names in this post. I'm not even mad at any particular portion of the trip. Sure th...

Radiator problems = Public Transportation, walking, a talk with a stranger & Drug interdiction

What a Day. I don't think I've had a day like this since college. All the frustration and running around, but without the wild parties & roommates. The story begins with the need to get my car fixed.  It's badly overheating and in need of some TLC in the radiator department.      After going to work, and after taking Ethan to school, I take the car (shaboom) to the shop. The mechanic says take it to another shop-- a radiator specialist. By the way, this is from the same  mechanic who thought he'd fixed it yesterday. So, heading to the "specialist." He's about 3 or 4 miles away.      Well, 45 minutes later, and two breaks to cool off the engine i finally get there. He says he can fix it. Now I have to get home. ????? Well, I have two feet right? I walk a long walk to the bus station. it was hot, but not that bad at all. again this was another time when i felt like i was back in tallahassee. It wa...

Why would I do that? -Go to the zoo?

Image
Yesterday, I took a trip with my son to the Bronx zoo (if you can't tell from all the picture uploaded.) I'm still recovering. Sorry about the overkill on pictures. but we really had a great time. When I found out that His pre-school was going to the zoo, it was a no-brainer. We were definitely going. My crazy work schedule has a lot of advantages. Being able to hang with EJ is one of them. Because I clock off before most people have their second cup of coffee, I can do whatever I want with the rest of my day... which usually starts with eating then sleeping. But not on this day. I would sacrifice that sleep part to spend some QT with EJ. So, starting off right after work, I was surprisingly awake. I don't know if I was anxious or excited, but I didn't sleep a wink on the way to the zoo. Probably better off because I avoided the post-nap attitude. Anyway the trip was shorter than I expected. The 30 or so kid s were very well-behaved, and th...
